Further arrests made in Birmingham murder investigation

Police have arrested two more people in connection with the murder of Naasir Francis in Birmingham.

Naasir, aged 22 years old, was fatally shot in Lozells at around 12.30pm on Wednesday.

West Midlands Police officers have confirmed a 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 21-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They were both arrested in Hertfordshire and will be brought to the West Midlands for questioning.

A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday remains in custody and is still being questioned by detectives. A 39-year-old man also remains in custody, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A 23-year-old woman who was arrested on Thursday for assisting an offender has been released pending further investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Munro, from the force’s homicide unit, said: “These further arrests demonstrate the pace of our investigation as we continue to try to understand what happened to Naasir.

“His family and friends are devastated by his death which has also left the community sad and shocked.

“Local neighbourhood police teams continue their increased presence in the area."
