Police rescue three women from alleged sexual exploitation as four people arrested
Three women have been rescued and four Romanian nationals arrested after two properties were raided in connection with allegations of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
West Midlands Police discovered the three Eastern European women, who it is suspected were being exploited, at an address in Church Hill Road, in Handsworth, on Sunday.
The women – who are aged between 18 and 25 years old – have been safeguarded.
A woman and a man were arrested at the property, while two other men were arrested from a different address in Handsworth. They remained in custody on Tuesday.
A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "We have acted on information and detained four Romanian nationals in connection with allegations of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Birmingham.
"We discovered three other Eastern European woman, who it's suspected were being exploited, at an address in Church Hill Road, Handsworth, on Sunday night.
"The women – aged 18 to 25 – have been safeguarded and a 33-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were detained on suspicion of being involved in trafficking and sexual exploitation.
"Our enquiries led us to arrest two further men, aged 19 and 28, from an address in Oxhill Road, Handsworth, on suspicion of false imprisonment. They all remain in custody for questioning."
