Abdirahman Yusuf, 22, was brought back to the UK from Sweden on Tuesday and has been charged with the murder of 24-year-old Abdul Rahman Abubaker.

Yusuf is one of five people to have been arrested over the death of Mr Abubaker, who was shot in Stratford Road, in Birmingham, on May 15, 2018.

Yusuf appeared at Birmingham Crown Court today.

A second man has also been charged with murder.

Mustafa Omar, aged 20, of no fixed address, was arrested in the Alum Rock area on Wednesday. He was set to appear before magistrates in Birmingham today.

Another man, aged 25, arrested from the same Alum Rock address has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A 22-year-old Nechells man was arrested on Thursday and he remains in custody for questioning over the killing. And another 22-year-old man was detained at an address in Glasgow on Thursday night.

He’s since been transported to a West Midlands Police's custody block where he remains for questioning.

Superintendent Ed Foster is leading the investigation, said: “An extensive investigation has been going on behind the scenes for many, many months. We have now reached the point where two people have been charged and more arrested.

“We made a promise to Abdul’s family to bring those responsible for his death to justice and we are still committed to that aim."
