The Ford Transit van was left abandoned in Swanhurst Park, in Moseley, Birmingham, over the weekend.

It is believed the culprits set fire to the vehicle after it became stuck on a slope close to a duck pond.

Photos showed the burnt out remains of the blue vehicle with rubbish also hanging out of the back doors.

The incident caused upset among local residents in the area.

One resident, who saw the van, wrote on Facebook: "Disgusting. Some people are just vile, and obviously not locals."

"That little fly tipping jaunt cost them their van," a different person wrote.

Another person wrote: "This is a builders waste. It should have been disposed of properly in a skip...like every other builder does."

A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said that fly-tipping is a criminal offence: "It is a crime that damages the environment that we all have to live and work in,"

"Where we have credible evidence, we will investigate and prosecute.

"We receive hundreds of reports of fly-tipping across the city every week and do everything we can to remove as much waste as possible and investigate the circumstances behind rubbish that is dumped.

"The council can only prosecute when credible evidence, that meets the criminal burden of proof, is available."
