Police officer reversed into in Wolverhampton hit and run

A police officer was taken to hospital after being reversed into in a hit and run crash in Wolverhampton.

The officer was hit by a reversing Mercedes he was approaching after parking behind it in Beechwood Avenue in Wednesfield on Friday.

The Mercedes C-Class convertible drove off after the incident which happened at around 2pm and saw the officer fall to the floor.

He was taken to hospital but was not seriously injured and was discharged.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating after an officer was struck by a car on Beechwood Avenue in Wednesfield just before 2pm this afternoon

"The officer had parked behind a Mercedes car on the road and as he went to walk by the side of the car, the driver of the Mercedes reversed and struck the officer, causing him to fall to the floor.

"The car then made off.

"He was taken to hospital to be checked over and fortunately only sustained minor injuries.
