Armed police arrest man spotted waving air pistol out of vehicle

A Wyre Forest man was arrested by armed police after being seen aiming a gas-powered air pistol out of a vehicle.

The 27-year-old was arrested in Bewdley following reports by a member of public of the man aiming the gun from a vehicle in Kidderminster.

The incident on Monday, June 29, saw officers from West Mercia Police find and arrest the man, who later admitted to showing off to his friend.

West Mercia Police’s Worcestershire operation patrol unit Tweeted: “C shift armed response vehicles deployed to Kidderminster after a member of the public reported a firearm being aimed from a vehicle.

“Located in Bewdley and gas-powered air pistol was recovered. One male in custody.”

The West Mercia Police Federation’s conduct and PIP (professionalising investigation programme) tweeted: "Could you tell if this was real? Split second decisions are what our armed response vehicle officers have to make."

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "A man was arrested in Bewdley, Worcestershire, after a member of the public reported seeing him holding a handgun in his vehicle.

"The suspect was located and arrested without incident by authorised firearms officers from Operation Patrol Unit Worcestershire and a ball bearing gun was found in the vehicle when searched.

"Following an interview in custody, the man admitted to possession of a BB gun and showing off to his friend.

"The 27-year-old man from Bewdley, was later released under investigation."
