Man attacked by gang after intervening in fight

A man suffered injuries to his back and neck after he was attacked by a group of men as he tried to intervene in a fight in Birmingham.

The attack took place in Washwood Heath Road, in the Ward End area of the city, at around 10.30pm last night.

Police believe the man, aged in his 20s, tried to intervene in a fight between a group of men.

He was then chased and hit with weapons. He suffered injuries to his back and neck and remains in hospital today.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "Police are investigating after a man was attacked on Washwood Heath Road, Ward End, at 10.30pm on Sunday.

"It is believed a fight took place between a group of men – a man in his 20s tried to intervene when he was chased and hit with weapons.

"The man suffered injuries to his back and neck and remains in hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing."
