A man from Wolverhampton and a woman from Birmingham have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the grim discovery in Gloucestershire on Tuesday.

A spokesman from Gloucestershire Police confirmed that the suspects – a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s – both remained in police custody on Friday afternoon.

It comes as police were searching premises in both Wolverhampton and Birmingham in connection with their investigation.

Police say a post-mortem examination proved inconclusive and DNA testing is on-going to identify the female victim.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: "Two people remain in custody today in connection with the discovery of human remains in the Forest of Dean earlier this week.

"A post-mortem examination yesterday was found to be inconclusive and further examinations are on-going to establish the cause of death.

"DNA testing is also ongoing to identify the female victim.

"Searches have continued around the area of Stowfield Quarry, near Coleford, and some road closures remain in place in the surrounding area.

"Police would like to thank local residents and those impacted by the closures for their patience throughout the investigation.

"Searches have taken place at premises in both Birmingham and Wolverhampton following the arrests of a woman aged in her 20s and a man aged in his 30s."

The man and woman were arrested after a vehicle was reported to police due to its manner of driving on the A4136 near Coleford just after 10.30pm on Tuesday.

Officers tracked down the vehicle, and two suitcases were found containing human remains. It has been reported that one of the suitcases contained a torso.
