The teenager suffered injuries to his head and leg in the attack in Unett Street, in Smethwick.

The boy's bag and mobile phone were also stolen in the attack.

A silver car and a white Mini drove off at speed in Unett Street just after midnight on Wednesday, minutes after the attack on the boy.

It is believed the silver car then drove the wrong way up a nearby dual carriageway in Grove Lane.

The victim has since been discharged from hospital.

West Midlands Police say their enquiries are continuing – and detectives are now looking for up to six men in connection with the attack.

Detective Sergeant Chris Jones, of Force CID, said: "We are asking anyone who may have seen what happened, or spotted the silver car driving the wrong way on the dual carriageway, to get in touch with us."

It was the third knife-related incident Smethwick in 10 days.

Karl Gallagher was stabbed to death in the town last Sunday, while another man was attacked with a machete at a petrol station the day after.

Anyone with information can call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 20SW/105090K/20.
