Man found dead in Birmingham's 'Benefits Street' named as 'family man' Amarjit Arora as murder probe continues
A man found dead at his Birmingham home has been named as 48-year-old Amarjit Arora.
Mr Arora was found unresponsive in the early hours of Sunday and pronounced dead at his home in James Turner Street – which became notorious for featuring on the Channel Four documentary series Benefits Street.
A post-mortem examination carried out on Wednesday was inconclusive – and further forensic tests will be required to establish the cause of death.
Police arrested a 44-year-old woman, who is known to Mr Arora, on suspicion of murder. She has now been bailed pending further enquiries and the results of the forensic post-mortem examination.
Detective Inspector Stuart Mobberley, from West Midlands Police's Homicide Unit, said: “This is a tragic case in which a family man has been found dead in his own home.
“Initially Mr Arora’s death was not deemed suspicious and there are no clear signs of injury.
“However, a new line of enquiry emerged suggesting his death may not have been natural causes or an accident.
"We will do all we can to find out exactly what happened.
“If anyone has information they believe could assist our investigation I would urge them to contact my team as soon as possible."
