Man arrested after windows smashed at Perton pub

A man has been arrested after windows were smashed at a pub near Wolverhampton.

The criminal damage at the Wrottesley Arms public house, off Severn Drive, in Perton, took place overnight.

A number of the pub's windows were damaged with a weapon, a Staffordshire Police spokesman said.

A 37-year-old man has since been arrested and remains in police custody.

A spokesman from Staffordshire Police said: "Officers were called to a report of criminal damage to the Wrottesley Arms pub on Severn Drive in Wolverhampton at around 1.45am on Friday.

"A number of windows were damaged with a weapon.

"A 37-year-old man, from Wolverhampton, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

"He remains in custody at this time and enquiries are on-going."

It comes only weeks after the nearby Sainsbury's supermarket was forced to close for a number of hours after the windows were smashed overnight on Monday, March 30.

At the time, police said it was an isolated incident and was "not related to any issues surrounding the Covid-19 outbreak", however the attack meant NHS workers were unable to use the shop during the usual dedicated hour.

A 37-year-old man from Perton was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and bailed.

The week before, Staffordshire Police launched an investigation after the same store's two cash machines were vandalised and smashed.
