An anonymous 999 call alerted police to the break-in at Wheatmill Bakery in Lapwood Avenue, Kingswinford, at around 10pm on Friday.

When police arrived they found a bicycle dumped on the car park behind the shop.

After searching the area around the bakery, PCSOs began searching the flats above and found a man lying behind a wall that separates the properties.

The man was subsequently arrested and cautioned for attempted burglary, with response officers arriving and making further checks.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We received a 999 call at 10pm on Friday reporting someone trying to break into a flat in Lapwood Avenue, Kingswinford. Officers attended and arrested a man at the scene.

"Anthony Price, aged 40, from Rookery Park, Pensnett, has been charged with attempted burglary and is set to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court tomorrow. He remains in police custody."

PCSO Louis Webb from the Brierley Hill Neighbourhood Team praised the partnership of the neighbourhood team and response officers in an alert to local residents.

He said: "Great partnership working between the neighbourhood team and response.

"A big thanks also goes out to the member of the public who originally made the police aware of the issue, again highlighting the vital role all members of the public play in preventing crime."
