Man charged with Covid-19 offence after 'firing gun outside Birmingham takeaway'

A man accused of firing a gun outside a Birmingham takeaway has been charged with a coronavirus offence.

Akeel Mughal is alleged to have approached people outside a takeaway on Stratford Road in Sparkhill brandishing a handgun.

He is said to have discharged the gun several times before making off from the scene on Sunday. Nobody was injured.

The 30-year-old, of Fosbrooke Road, in Small Heath, has been charged with possessing a firearm with the intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a firearm.

He has also been charged with a Covid-19-related offence of contravening requirements as to restrictions of movement during an emergency.

Mughal was due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
