The suspects, aged between 20 and 30 years old, were detained after a chase which started shortly after four men were seen leaving a house in Swindon at around 3am on Thursday.

A description of a van and a car the suspects were believed to have fled the scene in was passed to Wiltshire Police officers who then located the vehicles heading away from Swindon on the A419.

The vehicles were then chased by police across the border into Gloucestershire.

The four Wolverhampton men were eventually arrested on suspicion of burglary and a knife, cash and cannabis were found in the van and car.

When officers returned to the house in Park Lane, Swindon, they found a large cannabis factory inside.

Detective Inspector Alex Spargo, from Wiltshire Police, said: "This was excellent policing by all officers involved, including those across the county border who assisted in the arrest of the four men.

"The vehicles involved were seized as part of our enquiries and a number of items were located including a knife, a large quantity of cash and cannabis.

"We are extremely grateful to the member of the public who initially reported their concerns regarding the suspicious activity in Park Lane which enabled us to make these arrests and subsequently locate a substantial cannabis factory.

"I hope this encourages anyone who suspects criminal activity in their neighbourhood to report it to us on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress."

The suspects remained in custody on Friday morning.
