Man in coma after Birmingham assault

A man has been left in a coma after he was assaulted in Birmingham.

The attack happened in the early hour of January 20 in the Sparkbrook area

The 22-year-old was found unconscious with significant head injuries in Swallow Close, in the Sparkbrook area, at around 2.40am on Monday, January 20.

He remains in hospital in a coma – where his condition is described as serious but stable.

West Midlands Police is continuing its investigation into the attack.

A spokesman from the force said: "Our investigations are continuing and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have information about the incident, or saw a black VW Golf in the area around 11.20pm on Sunday 19 January.

"Two men, aged 19 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of assault on January 30. They were both conditionally bailed pending further enquiries."
