Burglars have targeted homes in Walsall about 10 times in the last two weeks, police revealed.

Offenders got into houses through unlocked doors, West Midlands Police said.

Car keys have been stolen during a number of these burglaries and in some cases the cars have been taken too.

Police said one man has been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary in Alumwell last week.

James Leonard, 33, from Southbourne Avenue, Walsall, was charged with burglary. He appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on February 1 and was remanded in custody until his next appearance on March 2.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We also need your help to prevent any further crimes, as many burglaries are carried out by opportunist thieves.

"They are often looking for homes with windows or doors left open.

"We’ve got excellent working relationships with you and lots of people who are really proactive in sharing our messages and advice, so please advise your friends and neighbours to be alert.

"If you are interested in finding out more about what is happening in your area, you can sign up to WMNOW, details can be found here: wmnow.co.uk

"We’d also ask that anyone who may have any information about these crimes gets in touch with us via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight or by calling 101 anytime.

"Finally, we’ve got some really useful tips on how to keep your home safe which can be found here west-midlands.police.uk/your-options/business-and-community."
