Police chase after driver rams vehicles in Brierley Hill

A suspected stolen vehicle rammed a police car before fleeing in Brierley Hill.

Officers spotted a suspicious car so tried to get the driver to pull over but they failed to stop and sped away.

Police followed the car to Wordsley High Street where it became blocked in but the driver rammed the police car twice before crashing into other vehicles and drove to Tack Farm Road where the driver fled on foot.

Both driver and passenger were caught and arrested by police.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Whilst on patrol officers from C unit response based at Brierley Hill saw this suspicious vehicle.

"It was registered many miles away which made us suspicious that it may have been on false plates.

"We followed the vehicle to Brierley Hill Road and signalled to the driver to pull over.

"The driver failed to stop and made off at speed driving dangerously.

"We pursued the vehicle to Wordsley High Street where the vehicle became blocked in heavy traffic.

"The passenger alighted the car and was detained. The driver rammed Into our vehicle twice before colliding with several other vehicles belonging to the public.

"We continued to pursue the car to Tack Farm Road there the driver ran. Following a foot chase he was arrested.

"It was established that the driver was already wanted and disqualified from driving and we established the car was indeed on false plates.

"The driver has been arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, failing to stop, dangerous driving, fraudulent use of registration plates and disqualified driving.

"The passenger has been arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle.

"Fortunately no one has been injured and there is no serious damage other than the police vehicle which is now out of action.

"They both remain in custody as we continue to investigate."
