A 24-year-old man was assaulted and had his bank card stolen in Duchess Road, Ladywood, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Minutes later the victim's bank card was used at a shop in Hagley Road.

The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old teenager have been arrested.

West Midlands Police has now launched an investigation into the robbery and is asking for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for the force said: "A man and teenager have been arrested on suspicion of robbery after a man was assaulted and had his bank card taken on Duchess Road, Ladywood at around 2.30am on Wednesday morning.

"Fifteen minutes later, the man’s bank card was used at a shop on Hagley Road, Birmingham, and subsequently a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old teenager were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

"The 24-year-old victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries."

Anyone with information is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting incident number 173 of January 29.
