Police were able to track down suspects thanks to members of the public providing them with details of a vehicle seen fleeing the scene.

Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group stopped a vehicle a short time later at Keele Services on the M6.

The suspects, both from Liverpool, were arrested within less than an hour on suspicion of robbery and remained in custody on Thursday evening.

A spokesman for Stafford Police said: "Following a report of a robbery at a local jewellers in Stafford town centre this morning, members of the public and CCTV assisted officers by providing vital information for a vehicle.

"The vehicle was subsequently located and a male and a female have been arrested – all within 40 minutes of the initial call to us.

"A great show of how members of the public and partner agencies support us in our role."
