Police dog tracks burglary suspects for two miles
A police dog helped officers in arresting three burglary suspects after tracking them for more than two miles.
West Midlands Police received several reports of men dressed all in black acting suspiciously in rear gardens around Kingswinford in the early hours of Friday.
It included one address in Chelford Crescent where a resident had disturbed the group.
PD Ellis – a four-year-old German Shepherd – picked up the scent and followed it through woodland, along the canal and into a housing estate – before dog handler Pc Gez Cotter spotted three men running off.
A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "All three were caught with help from neighbourhood officers who were deployed to the area in response to more calls from worried residents.
"One was found with two screwdrivers and another was concealing a ski mask down his pants!
"Three men, aged 18, 19 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of going equipped to commit burglary and remain in police custody for questioning.
"A great track from PD Ellis − a graduate of our police dog training academy − which may well have prevented several residents suffering the misery of a break-in."
