First picture of woman jailed for biting police officer on New Year's Day
This is the woman jailed for biting a police officer through three layers of clothing in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Judith Mundle was spotted by officers being escorted from a bar on Bridge Street, Walsall, by security staff for her aggressive behaviour.
The officers witnessed the 36-year-old's behaviour and were concerned for the security staff’s safety, so they intervened.
They took hold of Mundle, who began swearing at the cops, before pushing one of them in the chest.
A second officer tried to calm her down but the 36-year-old turned her aggression towards her and shoved her in the chest.
As the officers quickly attempted to cuff Mundle, she launched forward biting one of them on his arm through three layers of clothing and cutting his skin.
He was taken to hospital where he received a tetanus shot and a course of antibiotics.
He will also require a follow up appointment to determine if he will need any further medication.
Mundle, of Hagley Road, Birmingham, was charged with assaulting an officer and assault causing actual bodily harm, and at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court she pleaded guilty to both assaults and was jailed for 18 weeks yesterday.
Commander of Walsall neighbourhood policing unit, Chief Supt Andy Parsons said: "This is a heinous act on one of our colleagues, who was trying to ensure the safety of our community as we enter a new year.
"This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated on our streets.
“I very much welcome this sentence and hope people see this as a warning that we will take robust action against anyone who attempts to assault a member of our police family."
