Firearm suspects released on bail after police officer attack in Wolverhampton

Two firearm suspects arrested after two officers were assaulted in Wolverhampton have been released on bail.

A 36-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested after the attack on Sunday at Ring Road St David's.

The officers were injured during a struggle when they stopped a moped after seeing two people acting suspiciously.

One police officer received injuries to his arm and shoulder while another received injuries to his face as the suspects attempted to fight them off.

A member of the public, a man in his 50s, was punched in the face as he attempted to help the officers.

An area of Ring Road St David's near the city's police station was cordoned off following the incident, before the man and boy were arrested from their home address on suspicion of assault and firearms offences.

West Midlands Police have said enquiries continue.
