Mohammed Pasha Uddin grabbed a knife from the kitchen of his home, in Birmingham, and chased his 17-year-old victim before stabbing him in the back.

The teenager – who was in a relationship with a relative of Uddin's – suffered damage to his kidneys after the attack on June 26, but has since made a full recovery.

Uddin – who had also threatened his victim with a baseball bat and encouraged a dog to try and attack him – fled in his car following the stabbing.

It prompted West Midlands Police officers to launch a public plea for help to trace him on social media and resulted in 37-year-old Uddin to hand himself in days later.

Enquiries ensured officers secured a strong evidential case against Uddin and he was charged with wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.

Uddin, of Allcroft Road, was convicted following a trial and was sentenced to seven and a half years at Birmingham Crown Court on December 20.

Detective Constable Danette Moloney, from the force's public protection unit, said: "Uddin flew into a rage due to a family disagreement. He picked up the knife and chased his victim, it’s just fortunate that his injuries were not more serious.

"After realising what he’d done in the heat of the moment he went on the run; but as the net closed in he came forward himself."
