Police were called to Sutton Drive at about 4.20pm on Sunday to reports of a fire.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended and a man was taken to hospital by ambulance but has since been discharged.

A 24-year-old man of no fixed address was taken into custody and later released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A fundraising page has now been launched to raise £500 for the family affected by the fire.

Ellie Phillips started the page, saying: "On Sunday at Sutton Road, Stafford, the worst imaginable happened to some close friends of mine.

"The unfortunate incident of a house fire has meant that everything they had and owned has been destroyed or lost completely.

"I have made this fundraising page for the family to help them get through Christmas for the time being with the basics, but also help them get back on track in the new year. All donations whatever size will be so so much appreciated!

"Thank you for your help and generosity!"
