Daniel Hayden, of Hobgate Road, Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to two charges of exposure after incidents on trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham and was also sentenced in connection with a similar incident on a bus and was handed a 21-month prison sentence.

On December 19 last year the 37-year-old boarded a train at Wolverhampton heading for Birmingham New Street and walked through the carriage looking for a women to target, British Transport Police said.

Hayden walked past his victim, a woman in her 20s, but then turned back and sat near to her.

He then exposed and touched himself inappropriately while staring at her.

Then on January 16, Hayden was on a Birmingham to Wolverhampton train when he targeted another woman, again sitting near her and exposing and touching himself.

An off-duty officer was on board the train and helped detain Hayden until back-up arrived after the victim went to get help.

Hayden pleaded guilty to two charges of exposure and was also sentenced in connection with a similar incident on a bus in the Wolverhampton area involving a girl in her teens at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 19 November.

He was jailed for 21 months, put on the sex offenders register for 10 years and also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order which prevents him from sitting near lone women on public transport.

Det Con Andrew Parkinson, from British Transport Police, said: “Hayden is a notorious sex pest, he is a registered sex offender who has history for this type of disgusting behaviour in the West Midlands and previously in south London.

"This imprisonment is very welcomed and is proof that if you do not improve on your behaviour, you can face time behind bars.

“I would like to thank the victims in these cases to reporting his behaviour to police. In doing so, we were able to link multiple offences as part of one trial, which ultimately proves how serious Hayden’s offending has become.”

As part of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order, upon release from prison Hayden is banned from sitting next to lone unknown female passengers on public transport, using public transport between 9pm and 8am, unzipping or removing any garment covering his genitalia or taking any action that would result in his genitalia being exposed in any public place or private place to which the public have access or direct line of sight.
