The Tesco in Hurst Road, Wolverhampton, was targeted by two men at about 7.10pm on Monday. Police now have until 11.30pm tonight to question them.
Later in the evening two men, aged 50 and 51, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
Officers investigating the robbery were also in Arlidge Close in Bilston on Tuesday.
Police are keeping an open mind as to whether the two robberies may be linked.
