Fundraiser for funeral of Wolverhampton hit-and-run crash victim
A fundraising page has been set up for the family of a man killed in a hit-and-run crash.
Pedestrian Peter Salter died at the scene after he was found with serious injuries in Evans Street, Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, just after 10pm on October 26.
A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been released under investigation.
Paying tribute to Mr Salter, who lived in Whitmore Reans, his family said in a statement he was "a great loss to all who knew him and will be sadly missed by all".
Now a GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for Mr Salter's funeral, which raised £185 of its £1,000 target within 24 hours.
The page was set up by Elizabeth Mansell, a colleague of Mr Salter's wife Mary.
Ms Mansell said: "Peter and Mary are valued members of the community and genuinely good people so I wanted to reach out to the local community to help her fund a good send off for Peter.
"I believe in circumstances like this it is a time we can all come together support those closest to us.
"They were a lovely couple and Mary has lost the person closest to her."
A silver Mercedes which is believed to have been involved in the collision was recovered nearby.
Police have appealed for anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.
