Men left in 'serious condition' after car hits wall in Bilston

Two men were left in a serious condition in hospital, after they crashed in a car which failed to stop for police.

The driver and passenger, both in their 20s, suffered leg injuries after the crash in Bradley Lane, Bilston, on Friday afternoon. They were both due to undergo surgery over the weekend.

West Midlands Police believe the silver Audi estate was stolen.

Officers flagged down the car just after 3pm on Bilston Road, but the vehicle failed to stop.

However the vehicle crashed into a residential wall in Bradley Lane shortly afterwards, said police.

The driver was trapped for around 30 minutes before he was freed by firefighters and taken to New Cross Hospital.

The passenger got out unaided but he was taken to Russells Hall Hospital.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Officers on patrol in Bilston Road just after 3pm on Friday spotted a suspected stolen vehicle.

"It failed to stop for police and made off - but shortly afterwards crashed into a wall in Bradley Lane.

"Two men in the car suffered leg injuries and have been taken to hospital - they will be questioned on suspicion of car theft and burglary.

"They were in a serious condition and due to undergo surgery."

Police were waiting to question both men on suspicion of car theft and burglary.

A man, whose front wall was damaged following the crash, said: "This is unbelievable. I dread to think what it will cost to fix this."
