The man approached a security guard while armed with an axe at the Aldi supermarket in Priory Road, Dudley, on Monday.

The incident took place shortly before 3pm. The man left the scene empty-handed.

But investigating officers at West Midlands Police believe the same man arrived with an accomplice on a motorbike to carry out another raid the next day.

They made off with a quantity of cash, after a guard was threatened with an axe at a post office, in Dovedale Road, near Sedgley just before 11.30am on Tuesday.

Fortunately no one was injured.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Can you help us as we investigate two armed robberies? We are searching for a man who approached a security guard with an axe at Aldi on Priory Road in Dudley just before 3pm on Monday.

"They made off with a quantity of cash after a guard was threatened with an axe. Fortunately, no-one was injured.
