Arrests as man hit with hammer during Tipton carjacking

Four people have been arrested after a man was hit with a hammer during a carjacking in Tipton.

The man was walking to his car in residential Laburnum Road when he was approached by three men at around 9.30pm on Friday.

One of the men then struck him on the shoulder and head before stealing the car keys and fleeing in the car.

The victim was not seriously injured, a spokesman for West Midlands Police confirmed.

CCTV is being reviewed as police investigations continue.

Four males – aged 16, 18, 18 and 25 years old – have been arrested and remained in police custody on Sunday evening.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police investigating reports of a robbery on Laburnum Road, Tipton at 9.30pm Friday have arrested four people.

"It is believed a man was walking to his car he was approached by three men, one of whom was armed with a hammer.

"The man was struck to the shoulder and head before the men took his car keys and fled the scene in his car.

"Fortunately he was not seriously injured.

"A 16-year-old boy and three men, two aged 18 and a 25-year-old have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in police custody.

"CCTV is being reviewed as investigations are ongoing."
