Dwaine Haughton murderers revealed as they admit stabbing near Wolverhampton pub
Two killers took part in a serious stabbing just months after they cornered and gunned down a man in his car, it has emerged.
Dwain Smith, 26, and Kurrum Guild, 22, shot 24-year-old Dwaine Haughton as he sat in the passenger seat of a Peugeot 207 in Valley Road, Park Village, Wolverhampton, in July last year.
The pair were convicted of murder earlier this month following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, while Montell Gray and Seamus Williams were found guilty of manslaughter.
Smith and Guild could not be named during the murder trial in order not to prejudice this case and were known only as Defendant A and Defendant B.
Their identities can now be revealed after they admitted the assault of a man who was stabbed after being dragged out of a car in Wolverhampton earlier this year.
Smith, from Bilston, and Guild, of Oakthorpe Gardens, Tividale, were back in the dock this week charged over the stabbing which happened outside The Dartmouth Arms pub in Vicarage Road, All Saints.
The case was set for trial but both men – along with co-accused Aaron Evans, of Chadwick Close in Merry Hill, Wolverhampton – pleaded guilty at the 11th hour to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
CCTV showed the defendants dragging a man out of a car in Vicarage Road on January 6.
During the struggle the victim was stabbed three times by Guild and once by an unidentified man. He suffered a four-inch gash to his head and other slash wounds.
The footage showed Smith getting out of the car with a large knife.
Evans pleaded guilty on the basis he took part but did not stab anyone.
Guild also admitted possession of cocaine and cannabis which was found at the same time as the murder arms cache, which included two sawn-off shotguns discovered by police in a garage in Hackford Lane, Lanesfield.
Shot in the head
The jury at the murder trial heard that the victim never stood a chance after being taken by surprise in Valley Road, Park Village at about 9.20pm on July 20 last year.
He was sitting next to his cousin, Barrington Clarke, in the driving seat, when a stolen Audi A7 pulled up four yards away and at least one of the occupants got out and fired three or four shots into Mr Haughton’s head through the windscreen.
His cousin rushed him to New Cross Hospital but doctors were unable to save his life.
Mr Barrington caught a glimpse of the driver of the blacked-out Audi, who had a “smirk” on his face during the shooting, he said.
The driver is said to be Kurrum Guild.
He and Smith were convicted of murder while 22-year-old Gray and 23-year-old Williams were each convicted of manslaughter.
All four killers were further found guilty of possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life as well as handling a stolen Audi A7.
All bar Gray were convicted of arson by torching the car the day after the killing.
Three months later police found Smith’s DNA on a shotgun at Hackford Road, where the Audi collected an item from the garage 30 minutes before the shooting.
Guild, Smith and Evans will be sentenced, along with Gray and Williams, for all offences on November 1.
