Gemma Smith, aged 24, was riding with a group of other motorbikes when she crashed her Kawasaki in Manor Way, Halesowen, on September 14 at 12.12pm.

Miss Smith, from Sycamore Road, Oldbury, died two days later in hospital.

Black Country Coroner's Court heard that she suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Coroner Zafar Siddique opened and adjourned the inquest for a full hearing to be held on November 18.

He told the court: “It appears she lost control of her motorbike and came off her motorbike at some speed.

“She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital [in Birmingham] but despite medical treatment, she passed away on September 16.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my condolences.”

Her devastated family described her as a “beautiful daughter” and a “vibrant and active young lady who had so much to give.”

West Midlands Police has launched an investigation into the crash and officers are appealing for any motorists with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Pc David Hands, from the force’s collision investigation unit, asked anyone with information to contact police, quoting log number 1248 of September 14.
