Lewis Jukes is accused of causing the death of Kulvinder Kaur by dangerous driving in Cavendish Road, Beechdale, on Friday.

The 20-year-old is alleged to have been behind the wheel of a Peugeot 206 when it hit the 52-year-old local woman shortly after 1pm.

Mrs Kaur was pronounced dead at the scene, while the damaged Peugeot was abandoned on nearby Gurney Road shortly afterwards.

Jukes has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, failing to report a collision and driving without insurance.

He has also been charged with stealing a Vauxhall Astra from the Wolverhampton area earlier this month.

Jukes, from High Street in Brownhills, was arrested on Monday and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday morning where he was remanded in custody until October 15.

Two men, aged 21 and 27, who handed themselves into police last week have been released with no further action.
