Police treating 'acid attack' in Stourbridge as deliberate

Police are treating an incident where two men had 'acid' thrown at them in Stourbridge as deliberate.

The men, who police say were just sitting in a van in Wollaston Road at the time, suffered serious burn injuries after the hazardous substance was thrown.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the junction of Wollaston Road and High Street, Amblecote, at around 10.30am on Sunday.

Wollaston Road was closed off after a minor crash which happened after the suspected acid attack.

Analysis will be carried out on the liquid as part of a police investigation.

It is understood it could be an acid-type substance.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police are investigating after a potentially hazardous substance was thrown at two men while sat in a van on Wollaston Road in the Stourbridge area of Dudley.

"The men have been taken to hospital with serious burn injuries as enquiries continue to establish the circumstances around the incident.

"The road has been closed following a minor collision which resulted after the attack."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: "West Midlands Ambulance Service was called by the police to Wollaston Road, Amblecote, Stourbridge at 10.35am on Sunday.

"One ambulance attended and administered treatment to one man who had suffered serious injuries after a potentially hazardous substance was thrown at him.

"He was taken to Russells Hall Hospital for further emergency care. A second man had already left the scene, prior to the ambulance crew attending, and self presented at the same hospital."
