Teenager stabbed in attempted robbery at Smethwick's Thimblemill Brook

A teenager was stabbed in an attempted robbery at a beauty spot in Smethwick.

Police cordoned off a pathway at Thimblemill Brook, off Norman Road, near Bearwood, on Tuesday evening.

Officers closed off the footpath after an 18-year-old man was injured at around 4.35pm.

The cordoned remained in place into Wednesday as a investigation was launched.

An 18-year-old was found on Norman Road at the junction with Pheasant Road with stab wounds to his back and abdomen.

Police believe he was attacked by two men on a bridge close to Broadmoor Avenue.

But it is understood he managed to make his way to a friend’s house nearby where the emergency services were called.

The teenager was taken to hospital where his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and he is currently in a stable condition.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "An investigation is underway and a cordon was in place for some time to allow for forensic investigators to collect evidence. A car has also been seized for analysis."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said crews at the scene included specialises in the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car.

One woman, who wished not to be named, said: "I saw police outside last night, it was quite shocking to see.

"I have lived here for 35 years and you don't hear about anything like this.

"I heard someone got stabbed."

Another woman, who wished not to be named, said: "I came back about half past five and saw three police cars."
