James Teer, aged 20, was killed in Goosemoor Lane in Erdington at around 7.20pm on August 8, not long after playing football with friends.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and West Midlands Police say detectives have been "working around the clock" to catch those responsible.

Now, a 19-year-old from Alum Rock has been arrested in connection with the murder.

He was arrested in Birmingham city centre at 4pm yesterday.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Griffiths, said: “This arrest is a major step forward in our investigation but we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“James’ family have said that they can’t comprehend what’s happened or understand why anyone would want to harm their son.

“The motive is still unclear so I ask anyone who knew James or has heard any conversations that might help explain what happened to get in touch.

“There will be people in the community who know or suspect why this has happened.

“Anyone with information can get in touch with my team directly or they can contact the charity Crimestoppers anonymously.

"Callers won’t be asked for their names and calls can’t be traced, we just want information that can help us get justice for James and his family.”

People can contact West Midlands Police via live chat at WMP Online or by calling 101 while Crimestoppers are on 0800 555111.
