Handgun, three knives, cocaine, and £11k of cannabis seized in Stafford this weekend
A handgun, three knives, £11,000 worth of cannabis and illegal steroids were seized in Stafford this weekend as part of a new police operation.
A new police team has been formed from local officers, special constables and specialist staff brought in from across Staffordshire Police force as part of Operation Disrupt, which aims to target prolific offenders.
This weekend the force focused on Stafford, and executed five warrants, arrested 11 people and stopped 10 vehicles.
As well as this, three vehicles were seized, along with one gas-powered handgun, three knives, more than £8,000 in cash, £11,000 in cannabis, illegal steroids and cocaine.
A spokesman for the force said: "Operation Disrupt focused on Stafford this weekend.
"We’re acting on gathered intelligence and executing warrants to reduce crime in order to keep the communities safe and deal with offenders robustly."
Operation Disrupt will see visible hotspot policing, stop and searches and targeting wanted offenders, police said.
The new team will be directly deployed to the areas that that suffer crime the most, and places to target individuals, in an effort to reduce the amount of violent crime and drug offences.
A roads policing unit will also target criminals using the road network to commit and facilitate crime, working alongside the Central Motorway Policing Group and the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership.
Both the disruptions team and roads policing team have been set up after funding was made available through an increase in council tax across the region.
