Police officers punched and assaulted following attempted Penn shop raids
A police officer was punched in the face while a second was wrestled to the floor by two suspects following raids at two shops.
They were attacked after responding to reports of a shopkeeper being threatened with a screwdriver.
The officers arrived at the Costcutter, in Penn Road, Penn, where the worker was threatened at around 8.30pm on Thursday.
But moments later the officers were alerted to men attempting to steal alcohol from the Strictly Liquor store across the road.
Footage filmed nearby shows the moments the female and male officer bid to detain two men outside the second shop.
The female officer is punched in the face by a man who wrestles the second male cop to the floor before raining in blows.
But the female officer gets to her feet and Tasers the man who falls to the floor and is detained.
Footage shows a second man being detained at the kerbside moments later.
West Midlands Police say the male officer suffered cuts to his arms, legs and face, with the female officer left with bruising and swelling.
The shopkeepers in both stores were unharmed and the screwdriver was recovered.
A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, theft and attempted robbery.
A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and theft.
The men remained in police custody for questioning on Friday.
