Rimell Jenoure took a ‘rapid right turn’ in front of another motorist without indicating in Whitehall Road, West Bromwich at 2.45pm on February 15, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Mr Ian Ball, prosecuting, continued: "The other driver could not avoid a collision and both vehicles were badly damaged."

The defendant had neither insurance nor a valid driving licence, swore at the other motorist and left the scene on foot without exchanging details.

But he returned with his partner after going to her home to inform her of the crash. Neither he nor the other driver was badly hurt.

Mr Earl Pinnock, defending, said Jenoure was either collecting or returning a key to the house he shared with his mother and "put his interests above his need to heed the law" by taking the Audi without permission. He concluded: "This was an act of immature and selfish behaviour from a man old enough to know better."

Jenoure from Earlswood Court, Handsworth Wood pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, having neither insurance nor a valid driving licence and causing damage.

He was given a 12 month community order with 100 hour unpaid work and was ordered to attend rehabilitation courses. He was further banned from driving for 12 months.
