Masked gang steals £4,000 cash from family home with daughter inside

A masked gang broke into a Smethwick home and stole around £4,000 in cash while a 14-year-old girl was inside.

The thugs smashed the door down at the home in Pitcairn Road after the girl's parents left.

The father, who did not wish to be named, said his daughter managed to quietly call him and as he rushed home he saw the group leaving in a BMW.

But the group did manage to get away with between £4,000 and £5,000 in cash and gold jewellery of an unknown value, according to the homeowner.

The incident took place at around 7.30pm on April 16.

Police said that the group caused damage once inside the home, and they are still looking into what was taken.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "Police are investigating after up to five men entered a house on Pitcairn Road in Smethwick just before 7.30pm on April 16 and damaged a fireplace and living room furniture.

"A 14-year-old girl who was in the house at the time was fortunately uninjured.

"Enquiries continue to establish whether anything was taken from the house, and anyone with information is asked to contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or call 101 anytime quoting crime reference 20SW/91925L/19.
