RSPCA receives more than 300 calls about exotic animals in Staffordshire last year

The RSPCA received more than 310 calls about exotic animals last year in Staffordshire, new figures show.

The figure is up from 291 calls in 2017.

Members of the public in the county contacted the charity about an exotic animals 318 times in 2018, up from 291 in 2017.

Nationally in England and Wales, the charity received a total of 15,790 calls about abandoned, stray, sick, suffering and neglected exotic reptiles, mammals, birds and fish, more than 40 a day, or more than one every hour.

Last year, the RSPCA received 11,593 calls reporting cruelty, neglect, injury and suffering of all animals in Staffordshire, up from 11,034 in 2017.

The 2018 calls included 2,689 about cats, 3,663 about dogs and 736 about horses.
