Officers had been tipped off that the bike was regularly being driven illegally around the town. It was collected by officers in Cann Hall Drive yesterday, where it was parked on the road, at about midday.

The checks conducted on the motorcycle found that its tax had ran out in August 2013.

At 4pm, the owner of the bike called to report that it had been stolen.

A spokesman for Bridgnorth's safer neighbourhood team said: "The owner was informed that the vehicle had not been stolen, it had been seized by the police.

"If they want their vehicle back, they will have to prove that they have insurance and valid tax for it. They will also have to pay at least £150 to the recovery company."

Untaxed or uninsured vehicles can be reported to West Mercia Police via 101.
