Wolverhampton hammer attack victim 'serious but stable'
A boy who was attacked with a hammer in Wolverhampton city centre is now in a "stable, but serious" condition, according to police.
The 16-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack two days ago but his condition has now stabilised, police said today.
Meanwhile the cordon in place outside the Wulfrun Shopping Centre has been removed and shoppers are able to access nearby shops such as Primark as normal.
The teenager was taken to hospital after he was hit in the head with the hammer outside Wolverhampton's Wulfrun Shopping Centre at around 4.30pm.
Nearby shoppers and security guards helped the victim before medics, including the air ambulance from Cosford, arrived on the scene.
So far nobody has been arrested but on Tuesday forensic teams were busy examining the scene in Wulfrun Square, where a blue tent was put up inside the cordon.
Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting log number 1734 of 15/04.
