Woman jumps from window to escape 'extremely traumatic' attack

A woman was seriously injured when she jumped from a first floor window after being dragged into a man’s Walsall flat by her hair.

The victim was in Lord Street, Palfrey, when a man grabbed her by her hair and pulled her into a first floor flat.

The woman escaped by jumping out of a window, but suffered spinal injuries and a severe fracture to her leg, said emergency services.

West Midlands Police have appealed for information after the “extremely traumatic” attack, which happened between 10pm and 10.30pm on March 26.

Detective Inspector Chris Fox, from Force CID said: “This is a horrifying attack which was extremely traumatic for the victim.

“She is being supported by officers at this time and we continue to work hard to establish the circumstances around what happened.

“Fortunately, incidents like this are rare and I’d encourage anyone with any information to get in touch as soon as they can.”

Two ambulances and a MERIT trauma doctor were sent to the scene and the victim was taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called by police at 10.48pm on March 26 to Lord Street, Walsall.

“Two ambulances and a MERIT trauma doctor attended.

“A woman received trauma care on scene by ambulance staff after sustaining serious injuries. She was taken to hospital.”

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and attempted rape after the incident and has been released on bail pending further investigation, police said.
