Matthew Page, aged 40, has been charged with the murder of 68-year-old Mary.

She died at her home, in James Street, Bilston, on January 31, after suffering a head injury.

Her body was found by West Midlands Police a day later after officers arrived at the terraced house.

The defendant, also of James Street, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday where he denied the charge.

Mr James Burbridge QC remanded Page into custody ahead of a trial date on June 21.

Mary's devastated family paid tribute to her as a 'kind animal lover and mother whose life was tragically cut short'.

The statement, released through police, added 'she will be greatly missed by her family and friends’.

Her house was cordoned off by police after her body was discovered.

An inquest in February had heard Mary's body was discovered in the bedroom of her house.

The inquest, which finds the cause of death and not any criminality, is currently adjourned while criminal proceedings are active.
