Birmingham New Road crash: Second driver released by police amid ongoing investigation

A driver arrested in connection with the deaths of two young brothers in a crash on Birmingham New Road has been released under investigation.

Sanjay Singh, aged 10, and his 23-month-old brother Pawanveer died in the crash in Wolverhampton on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old, from Birmingham, was held on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He had remained in custody last night after detectives applied for more time to question him.

West Midlands Police today confirmed he has been released as detectives continue to investigate.

They were with their mother in their BMW turning right into Lawnswood Avenue, when they were struck by an Audi S3 at around 8.45pm on Thursday.

A 31-year-old man from a third car, a Bentley, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released pending further investigation.

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to Sanjay by the headteacher of his primary school.

Claire Williams, headteacher at Cotwall End Primary School in Sedgley, described Sanjay as the “life and soul of the class”.

Dudley Council said it was working closely with Cotwall End School and offering help and support to pupils, parents and staff.

An online fundraising page has raised almost £1,000 towards supporting the boys' family.
