Police officers were called to reports of disorder outside Matthew Boulton College, in Jennens Road, at around 1.45pm on Wednesday.

A 26-year-old man and a 16-year-old were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Superintendent Ian Green, from Birmingham Police, said: "We are working hard to establish the exact circumstances of what happened yesterday afternoon. Clearly in light of recent events, this is a disturbing incident where violence among young people has taken place within the city.

“We are working hard to tackle the rising surge in violence and knife crime. We continue our extra patrols and are still utilising our extensive powers to search people without the need to suspect they are carrying weapons.

“Using these powers, between the March 1 and 4 we have stopped 408 people, arrested 24 and seized 14 weapons.

“We are committed to tackling the rise in violence in the city and will robustly deal with those intent on causing harm within our communities."

Anyone with information about the incident at Matthew Boulton College is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting incident reference number 1284 of March 6.
