Second teenager arrested on suspicion of Hazrat Umar's murder

A second teenager has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Hazrat Umar in Birmingham.

Hazrat, aged 18, tragically died of his injuries after he was stabbed in Norwood Road, in Bordesley Green, on Monday, February 25.

The 16-year-old boy from Birmingham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested this morning in connection with the fatal stabbing.

Another 16-year-old boy has been charged with Hazrat's murder and is currently in custody.

Detective Inspector Michelle Allen, from West Midlands Police's homicide team, said: "My thoughts remain with Hazrat’s family who are devastated by this senseless act.

"This arrest is a significant step forward in our investigation and we are doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice.

“I continue to appeal to anyone who has any information and has not yet come forward to contact us at the earliest opportunity."

Hazrat was one of three teenagers killed in knife attacks in Birmingham in the space of a fortnight in February. On February 20, 16-year-old Abdullah Muhammad was discovered fatally wounded near a park in Small Heath.

Another teenager, Sidali Mohamed, also 16, died in hospital on February 15 after being attacked outside a college in Balsall Heath.
