The violence broke out in Church Street, off St John's Road, at around 2.30am on Sunday and two people were slashed with a knife.

A teenager fled the scene but was found after armed officers and the West Midlands Police dog unit arrived.

The knife was also found and seized by police.

The two people who were slashed with the knife sustained minor injuries.

A West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed that a 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He was still in custody this morning.

Chief Superintendent Sally Bourner, from the Dudley police team, said: "We will not let up on our fight against knife crime.

“I would like to thank the quick-thinking members of the public who thought to call police when they noticed someone standing with a knife and ultimately prevented someone else being injured.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
