Sixth form college closed after teenager stabbed in street fight

A college has closed for the rest of the week after a teenager was critically injured in a fight nearby.

A 16-year-old boy is believed to have been stabbed in the chest during the incident and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The attack happened at around 4.10pm yesterday on Belgrave Road, outside Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College in Birmingham.

Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy following the attack but have not confirmed what he was detained on suspicion of.

A 19-year-old man was also left with minor cuts to his back and his hand, while an 18-year-old man was treated for a cut to his hand.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Anyone with information has been asked to contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or call 101 anytime.

"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

After the attack, a statement was released on the college's website, confirming that the site has closed to students for the rest of the week.

It read: "We can confirm that an incident occurred outside the college on Belgrave Road.

"As it is a police investigation we are unable to comment further at this time.

"Our thoughts are with the student who was attacked and his family.

"The college is closed to students for the rest of the week.

"Lessons will resume after the half term holiday."
